Quick Travel Answer
What is the best way to visit the Sohag Monasteries?
The most useful first visit is to treat the Red Monastery and White Monastery as one paired Coptic heritage experience, not as two isolated photo stops. Allow enough time to compare the Red Monastery's painted sanctuary with the White Monastery's monumental limestone architecture and Saint Shenouda context. For many travelers, a relaxed half day is a practical starting point.
If you want to continue deeper into Upper Egypt, connect Sohag with Abydos Temple or the Dendera Temple Complex, but do not overload one day simply to add more names. Road time, heat and the depth of each visit matter more than the number of stops.
